Sophie leaves home for first time to join C4C

We’re so proud of our brilliant volunteer Sophie Ruggles!
She was a final year A-Level student, but when Coronavirus hit her exams were cancelled.
Sophie wanted to do something productive with her unexpected free time, so she got in touch with Care4Calais and came out to France as a volunteer.
Sophie is spending her summer working in our warehouse and distributing supplies in the camps. She’s loved getting to know the people, listening to their stories, sharing music, serving them tea and coffee.
She’s never lived away from home before, so everything is new. But she’s settled in brilliantly and is a fantastic member of the team.
Sophie says it’s a privilege to work with the refugees. What an amazing, eye-opening experience to begin adult life – we think everybody should take a leaf out of Sophie’s book!
Check out her story in the Stroud News & Journal by clicking here. And if you’re in Gloucestershire listen out for her talking about her experiences on BBC local radio just after 07.30 tomorrow morning.
