Abdul’s story

Abdul’s story

Today I met a young man, his name was Abdul. When he was two years old, him and his family migrated to the UK. They all lived there until he was deported back to Libya- he was then 13.

He is now an 18 year old man and just wants to get back to the UK. It’s all he has known. We spoke about living conditions, today it had rained and we asked him what he did when he gets wet. His response was to wait for the sun to come out to dry.

He is currently sleeping under a hedge and is struggling to find the hope and courage to keep going. He wants to study if he manages to get to the UK.

Whilst talking with him, I could see the hurt in his eyes, but he wore his smile with such confidence… just before we left I told him “a smile goes a long way” he replied with “we smile for each other, it’s all we have left”.
