Gearing up for boots distribution in Brussels
Today in Calais, it was cold, wet and windy. I wore four layers and was still soaked to the skin by the constant heavy rain. The one thing that cheered me up was seeing people wearing the walking boots we had previously given out. I know how much walking refugees do every day, and I know that the ones wearing poor footwear would have been sodden today. Storm Dennis: help refugees stay as dry as you
This is Storm Dennis in Dunkirk today. It has been brutal for the refugees here who are living outdoors, trying desperately to stay dry. We’ve had a team out with ropes, pegs, and tools trying to secure tents, but there is only so much we can do in these conditions. We distributed sleeping bags and rain ponchos, as well as hot tea and biscuits. By the end of the day, we were soaked, cold, and tired. The difference is that we can go home and get dry, leaving people behind outside, still cold and still wet, in these terrible conditions. …
UK must follow EU countries in welcoming child refugees
There are currently around 5,000 unaccompanied child refugees in Greece. France has pledged to accept 400 of them, and several German states have expressed their willingness to take in some. Now, Finland’s Interior Minister Maria Ohisalo has said she also wants to see Finland welcome some of these children. It’s time for the UK to considering welcoming in some of these child refugees.
