The best and worst of humanity

In our day to day work at Care4calais we really do see the best and worst of humanity. Today we were at the evening food distribution helping with the lines and chatting to our friends. It was a sunny evening, there was music playing and and all was peaceful.

Without warning the CRS arrived in large numbers. Most boys ran off, a few were arrested and then we witnessed them pinning one child – about 16 years old – to the ground and then drag him kicking and screaming towards their van. He had broken his wrist earlier and had been in pain which had brought him to the attention of the police.

We understand there are different perspectives on the refugee issue, but it cannot be right to treat young boys this way, who have done nothing except look for food, shelter and human contact.
