Calais settlement cleared, possessions destroyed – again

Calais settlement cleared, possessions destroyed – again

Today the French authorities once again cleared the largest settlement in Calais and destroyed the refugees few possessions. Many police officers arrived at 7.30am and surrounded the site, closing the roads.

People were put on four buses to be transferred out to french centres and we understand that 30 were arrested.

This afternoon we have been out distributing tents and sleeping bags salvaged from festivals by our friends Whistles for Refugees.

This is not a solution. Nothing ever changes, our faith in humanity falls and the refugees are once again hurt by the world.

One day a better solution will be found. The people here have done nothing wrong and only want a fair chance at a safe life; the same chance as anyone else. One day this will happen but in the meantime we will continue to deal with this pointless circle of abuse.

We need many more tents and sleeping bags, and our stocks of basic necessities are nearly bare. Please help by donating goods at your nearest drop off point.

Or by making a financial donation here.

Thank you.
