Care4Calais signs letter to PM requesting #StatusForAll

In a joint letter, Care4Calais is one of more than 20 organisations which have called on the Prime Minister to protect public health and the welfare of everyone in our society by granting a period of ‘leave to remain’ to those awaiting decisions from the Home Office, those who have been refused asylum, and those who are undocumented.

No one should be left behind when it comes to public health. Granting those with insecure immigration status leave to remain NOW will protect everybody during COVID-19.

People with insecure immigration status face numerous barriers to getting support, housing and healthcare. Allowing them to regularise their status would be the most effective and comprehensive way of ensuring they get the support they need during this crisis, and would also protect UK society as a whole.

It is also the quickest way to ensure that all who are able to contribute to the national effort can do so, bringing many skilled workers back to support frontline work in hospitals, care, food distribution, cleaning and more.

At a time when the COVID-19 pandemic makes it essential for everyone to have safe accommodation and healthcare, insecure immigration status puts everyone’s health at risk.
