We need a LOT of dates.
Now that most refugees are sleeping rough (rather than living in camps) food is even more of an issue than it was before. People can’t cook for themselves and can only carry what they can get in a small backpack. In many places there are kitchens providing a hot meal on the street at night, but if this is missed for any reason – an asylum interview, detention or being moved on by the police – that can mean 48 hours without food.
Since March this year Care4Calais has been spending £1,000/week on packs containing items such as dried fruit and nuts, cereal bars, tinned fish and fruit juice – but we just can’t afford to keep this up without your help.
The most popular item is dates, as these are healthy, high energy, keep well and are loved by the refugees. We are asking for donations of dates, for money to buy dates, and for anyone who can access cheap deals to buy dates in large quantities. If you can help please get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org or donate now at www.care4calais.org/donate
