Distributing your coats4Calais

Right now it’s incredibly cold in northern France, and refugees are freezing. So on Saturday, when we turned up with warm winter coats, people were very pleased to see us.

We were doing a big distribution in Calais. More than 200 of refugees came, and you could see how cold many of them were – it was heartbreaking to see people who have done nothing wrong suffering like that.

We were giving out winter coats that kind, compassionate people have donated to Care4Calais in the last few months. A long line formed, and people waited patiently as we made sure every person got the right size. It took time to make sure everyone got sorted out, but refugees and volunteers stayed in good humour all the way through.

As many refugees got a coat, they put it on straight away – even if they already had one, they appreciated the extra layer. It was amazing to see what a difference these coats were making, and how much better people felt with them on.

This was possible only because of all the coats people have donated to Care4Calais over the last few months, so this is a big thank you to all of you from all of us in northern France. You’ve helped make a difference to people’s lives here.

Imogen, Care4Calais
