Distributions in Calais

Today we gave out winter coats and waterproof sleeping bag covers in Calais. They have never been more needed. Temperatures dropped and the snow was driving but still people queued in the freezing cold to get these essential items.
The night before we took some refugees out for dinner. We heard stories of homes torn apart by war and childhood spent without the education that we take for granted. They explained the urgent need for escape that was accompanied by the pain of leaving home.
They told us in a matter of fact way about a journey walking of thousands of miles that encompassed the horrors of Libya or the terrors of Serbia. It made me think of my sister worrying about her kids, the same age, going shopping or walking home late on their own.
How could we not want these brave, resourceful and composed young men in our country?
