Firefighters deliver aid to refugees

Yesterday we took 12 firefighters and a firetruck to Brussels to distribute 260 warm winter coats to refugees living in the park.
The coats were so needed. There were people wearing only tee shirts and the temperature dropped to 1 degree when night fell. Conditions for those sleeping rough in the park are harsh.
But the sight of the fire engine and the solidarity shown by the firefighters lifted everyone’s spirits.
“As firefighters called to a rescue we don’t ask who the person in the building is, what colour their skin is or where they are from. We also don’t ask why someone is in the building, we just focus on helping them. The situation is the same here, there are people living in appalling conditions that need assistance and we have a duty as humanitarians to help as we can.”
– Ricardo la Torre, firefigher Fire Brigades Union
We desperately need more coats to help the many people sleeping rough across northern France and Belgium. If you have a coat that you no longer wear please take it to your nearest drop off point now https://care4calais.org/thedropoffmap/
