Fires in the Camp
Fires broke out in the camp last night and have continued into today. We don’t know exactly how they started, but there have been rumours that activists may have been behind them. Due to the raging fires, it’s been difficult to gain access to the camp, but we checked as many areas as possible and nearly all adults have left the camp.
However, early this afternoon authorities started to turn away children and we understand there may be up to 100 unregistered children still left in the camp. As far as we know things came to a halt due to the containers being full, which meant they had nowhere to place the children.
We believe that the children may be able allowed to sleep in the Jules Ferry Centre, but this has not been confirmed. We are preparing tents and blankets in case this doesn’t unfold.
We are getting increasingly concerned for the safety of these minors and we are just hoping a solution is reached soon!
