Going full circle: the refugees who are volunteering with Care4Calais

‘Every week, some of the refugees that we support are keen to give back to the community that they are staying in.

These guys are from Eritrea and have been in the UK for eight months.  Over lockdown, it’s been really hard for people to be motivated but they’ve always been really keen to help and support us with the various Care4Calais activities.

When we needed to do a big sort out of lots of clothing or when there were volunteers needed at the local food bank to unpack and prepare food, they both jumped at the chance and took so much pride in their work. They enjoy it so much and get such a buzz from talking English to people and having a purpose.

It’s a really lovely thing that’s come full circle. These refugees have been supported by Care4Calais and now want to help others by supporting our work and helping other organisations such as the Mutual Aid Willesden.’
