Home Office to continue using Napier Barracks to house asylum seekers

Despite all the shocking evidence that has come to light, the Home Office is still determined to continue the use of Napier Barracks to house asylum seekers.

Despite a major Covid outbreak and the NHS warnings that due to the conditions, a large-scale spread of infection had been “virtually inevitable”, up to 28 residents will continue to live in the dormitories. An independent report has described the barracks as “filthy”, “impoverished” and “uninhabitable” – yet the Home Office is refusing to shut it down.

Care4Calais have been working on the ground at Napier Barracks. We have seen the terrible conditions of the substandard accomodation and the effects it is having on its residents. The government’s refusal to close it down is both frustrating and disappointing. Our volunteers will remain on the ground and provide direct support to the residents.

We will continue to #StandWithNapier

Please write to your MP, continue to spread the word, and sign the petition: https://action.freedomfromtorture.org/close-the-barracks-1
