Initial report confirms appalling conditions at Napier Barracks

BREAKING – the damning initial report from the Inspector of Borders and Immigration into the use of barracks to house asylum seekers has been published today.
Our work on the front line has shown us time and again that the conditions at the barracks are appalling. This is a watershed report and its initial findings are stark. The report makes it clear that these sites are not safe, and it’s obvious that no one else should be sent there.
How on earth can the Government consider housing more vulnerable people where they are put at risk, and where depression and thoughts of suicide are experienced by so many? The report itself says there were “fundamental failures of leadership and planning by the Home Office” and “serious safeguarding concerns in relation to Napier”.
The Government needs to act now and close these camps.
