Izzy and Hannah’s amazing adventure

These two amazing supporters have just completed a mammoth 148 mile bike ride in 4 days, all in aid of refugees.
Izzy registered to volunteer with us in the autumn, and wanted to ‘go the extra mile’ and do something special for the people she’s supporting.
Her friend Hannah’s family live near Dover, so she was aware of the refugees landing there and wanted to help. When she came across Care4Calais at Uni, it reminded her of the need on her doorstep, and that she wanted to make a difference.
And so a plan was born!
“After learning more about how the charity helps refugees, we wanted to use the resources we have to do something which could raise awareness as well as money,” says Izzy.
They decided they would take just four days to cycle from Nottingham University to Reading – a route which takes in some fairly gruelling hills. But they made it! Raising a wonderful £200 in sponsorship.
Izzy says, “We are both devastated with the living conditions and treatment of refugees in the camps in Calais. Studying Geography for me has particularly highlighted the scale of international injustice playing out at the border, and I am determined to play my part in seeing refugees are no longer defined by their situation.”
