Mark takes on the #CampOut challenge for a night

“I’ve always enjoyed camping, especially at Glastonbury which is my favourite festival in the world, but this year #CampOut4Calais is the closest I’ll get to Worthy Farm.

“One night in a tent is a novelty, but the weeks and months spent in them by refugees must be very difficult. I am lucky to have good camping conditions, an airbed, space, a clean tent, and clean clothes – refugees usually get none of these things. I was fortunate that it didn’t start raining until I had got up for the day, but it must be pretty miserable with the rain pouring down in your tent.

“Care4Calais is a charity that is close to my heart. I volunteered for two weeks with them over November and December 2019, and it was truly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

“My dog Harvey was more than happy posing for pictures, but I had to kick him out before bedtime though – he’s far too fidgety to have inside.”

Why not follow Mark‘s example and take action now to re-stock the camping gear in the Calais warehouse?

  • Organise a sleepout to raise money for tents or sleeping bags
  • Have a clear-out and send us your old camping gear
  • Send us the tent you bought for a festival that you’re not going to use
  • Get involved with the campaign on social media and let your friends know about #CampOut4Calais

Just £7 buys a sleeping bag, and £14 buys a two-person tent.
