No electricity, no XBox or messing about with your mates

My name is Seb and I am 14, although if I am in trouble I get called Sebastian.

I recently volunteered for three days when my mum was in Calais. She has been involved for four years so I am used to hearing about Calais / Dunkirk / refugees.

If I am honest I have never really cared too much – it wasn’t my cause, I used to get jealous of the situation with refugees as it took mum away from us. But a couple of years ago she took me and my younger sister to Paris to see the difficulties there, then she said if u wanted to come I could and I thought it was time.

We have had a refugee come stay with us and he was so nice.

As I’m fairly tall and strong (nearly as big as my dad now) I was able to help with moving boxes and sorting out in the warehouse – there is so much to do and it’s very varied – one moment I am moving a box and the next I am packing up food items for a distribution.

I like how everyone is welcome and I like seeing Mum with the other volunteers – she makes everyone around her relaxed and useful (I didn’t say bossy 😉 )

We went to Dunkirk where I helped to distribute deodorant and tissues – we also did drinks and sun cream – it’s hard to imagine being in a tent in that heat every day

I would definitely come back if mum would bring me.

I wouldn’t come as often as she does as I don’t feel the same way about refugees as she does (unless I am meant to be in Lycee then I am happy to come back again) but it’s not good to do nothing when we can all do something.
