Our fundraising hero!

‘I’ve always thought about shaving my head but I’ve never been brave enough to actually go for it – I needed the push that the fundraiser would give me.
My sister, Eleanor, is currently volunteering in Calais so I’ve heard first hand about the reality that refugees are facing there over winter. I couldn’t come and volunteer myself because I’m a teacher in Nottingham but knew I wanted to do something to support the cause.
I thought I could maybe raise around £600 but I’ve already more than doubled it. I didn’t really sleep much the night before. I was quite excited but I was shaking a bit as I was sat on the chair and my colleague was cutting it off – it pushed me to do something I wouldn’t have been brave enough to do otherwise.
Every time I look in the mirror or feel my head I think about how many people donated and how generous they are. As well as raising money, I’ve also hopefully raised more awareness around the situation in Calais. A lot of people aren’t so aware – I’ve had lots of productive conversations, informed people of the reality and pointed many people I know towards Care4Calais.’
