#Packs4Calais

If you could only take only one small bag with you on a long journey, what would you fill this bag with?
Many refugees flee their homes in a rush to cross over continents, sometimes making a agonising choice between a treasured possession or safety as they travel. When they arrive in Calais they often own nothing but the clothes they wear.
Being able to provide people with a backpack full of necessities is such an important and wonderful thing to be able to do. When volunteering this week with Care4Calais I was part of the distribution of #packs4calais; pre-made backpacks containing toiletries, nuts and snacks, new socks and underwear, trousers and t-shirts. The response was lovely, as each person was happy just to receive the backpack alone, and then finding all of the items inside was an added bonus.
But these #packs4calais are to so many refugees a lifeline, necessities to people who don’t have a home, a washing machine or money.
I would urge anyone out there to speak to their friends and family, contact your local school or community group or even make a party out of it. Donate a backpack and fill it with simple items: a torch, dried fruit, new socks, boxers and/or a top or joggers. Believe me, it will go directly to someone who not only desperately needs it but will be so happy to receive it too.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated #packs4calais! They really are a wonderful thing.
