“People continue to drown every day, and every one of these deaths is preventable.”

This is one of the boys that Europe refused to rescue. His name is Manuel. He is 6 years old. He was one of 64 people rescued yesterday by a ship called #AlanKurdi. It is the last remaining rescue boat operating in the Med. Another 50 people are still missing. There is no official help for them. Nobody is looking and nobody cares – except the civilian NGOs.
Europe has refused assistance. Italy has closed their ports to any that are rescued. The politicians in each country will say that the rescues are the responsibility of the Libyan Coast Guard. The so called Libyan Coast Guard is refusing to help. They neither answer their phones, nor agree to go to the rescue. They are a Coast Guard in name only. In truth, they are the smuggling rings, the torturers and the slavers.
Operation Sophia is finished. No EU country will send another ship to help. People continue to drown every day, and every one of these deaths is preventable.
But whilst we bend to fascists, children will die in our name.
Manuel and all of the boys and girls like him deserve so much more. When we close our eyes to fascism, we become fascists.

If you want to tell our government to stop supporting this policy (because we do – the UK proposed the legislation to criminalise the civilian rescue boats, and the UK finances the Libyan Coast Guard) then share this post far and wide and like and share every similar post you read.
