Playing games with refugees

Playing games with refugees

Each week Care4Calais goes to Brussels to distribute items and also give a bit of respite to people in need there. We take the generator and charging boards for mobile phones, hot water urn for tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate and a smaller generator for the hair clippers.

Just recently thanks to a very kind donation of games we are also able to take games with us and get the refugees to interact with us and each other. This week after distributing jackets, blankets and food packs we sat down with dominoes. What a joy!
There was literally a queue to play. We laughed and started to say ‘ one line ‘ 🙂

After an hour I was begged to leave a set behind. I was so torn. These were donated for all refugees not just a few. However, after a quick shout out for money / help we secured a further 25 sets of dominoes to be delivered to Care4Calais in the following week. The sheer joy on the faces of those who were able to continue playing once we had left was priceless.

We can all afford a set of dominoes to donate or a foot ball for example and the pleasure and light relief you give to a group of young men, who are lonely, far from home and in need of a friendly face. Thank you so much to the kind people who have enabled us to do this.
