Ramadan Karem

Ramadan Karem is the greeting that met us when we were out and about this week, the beginning of Ramadan, the Islamic Holy Month.
This time we have been lucky to be able to give out hundreds of beautiful prayer mats in Calais, Dunkirk and Brussels. Before asking for jeans or a sleeping bag two very young boys, spotting these, asked me graciously “madam, do you have something for praying today”. How could we say “no” even though the mats were supposedly for later? Their grins lit up the sky.
Having something to believe in keeps many of the refugees going, keeps hope alive and helps at their time of suffering. So it is especially important we help them observe the Holy Month. Many thanks to Usman Khan for the beautiful gift of the prayer mats.
Alongside the prayer mats we have been giving out dates to break the morning fast. We would love to continue distributing dates throughout the month, but of course dates are expensive. Donations of dates would be most welcome, as would contributions to help us fund this. Providing 100g of dates costs us 70p per refugee and there are around 500 Musim refugees in Calais, 250 in Dunkirk, 300 in Brussels and 250 in Cean. To donate go to https://goo.gl/jmkx7A
