Refugees need your help in Kent

Refugees need your help in Kent

If you live in Kent and care about helping refugees, then we desperately need you to email [email protected]

Around 200 asylum-seekers have already arrived at the Napier military barracks in Folkestone and more are expected. We need willing volunteers in the area to help them. We want to gather donations, organise distributions, fundraise, visit the refugees and provide support that can make hundreds of vulnerable people feel welcome and cared for.

There have been media reports of the barracks being cramped and unsanitary, with claims of up to 20 men staying in one room together. To make matters worse, the region is often targeted by far-right Britain First members. In late September police were called to the barracks as a group of people gathered outside to bully the first arrivals into feeling unwelcome.

We are already working around the country to provide practical support to thousands of people living in hotels. To help us do the same in Folkstone please email [email protected]

There will also be a welcome event hosted at the barracks on 17 October, led by Kent Refugee Action Network (KRAN). Find out more and confirm your presence here.
