#RefugeesWelcome

Today we are bitterly disappointed that the Government has again failed to reconsider dropping the Dubs scheme, after MPs defeated an amendment proposed by Heidi Allen MP in the House of Commons. The amendment would have required the Government to consult with councils on their capacity to support more refugees.

The Government has reneged on its promise to take in 3,000 refugee children desperately in need, despite local authorities making it clear that they have the capacity to do more.

We see more refugees, many of whom are children and minors, arrive in Calais every day – failing to receive the support they so desperately need, and forced to live rough and sleep on the streets. The Government has today let down the children who have to live in such inhumane conditions.

We will continue to campaign to reinstate the Government’s promise to help those who are lost without our support, and give hope to the vulnerable children who depend on us. We are encouraged by the cross-party support that continues to exist for Lord Dubs’ Amendment, and the thousands of passionate campaigners working so hard to give refuge to those fleeing war and persecution. We encourage you to join us in spreading our message: #RefugeesWelcome.
