Today we gave out more than 150 pairs of new shoes in Calais. There’s a particularly desperate need here right now, so people were really pleased and relived to pull them on. Lots of refugees had shoes that were falling apart, and in the hot, dusty conditions this means their feet burn and small stones cut their feet. If all you have are battered old sliders or flip-flops, it can be even worse. Sharing solidarity, friendship and flatbreads in Leeds
We had the loveliest time at our distribution in Leeds this weekend, with so much going on! It was great to see the lads from the nearby hotel. Many of them have been there at least a year, and they’ve all recently endured racist abuse from far right groups. However, they do tell us that our friendly and consistent presence goes a long way to making them feel safe.
