The many hidden talents of the people of Calais

The many hidden talents of the people of Calais

I had a really nice moment in Dunkirk when a man threaded my eyebrows. I’m so happy with the final result! This is the best my eyebrows have ever looked. It would cost at least £10 at home.

Loads of the refugees are good at threading because they thread their own beards and eyebrows, especially at the hairdressing station we’ve set up.

This man was so lovely. He was much more cheerful than he looks in the photo. He’s definitely posing. It hurt a lot and he kept laughing at me but it was worth it.

It’s great to exchange skills and not for them to be receiving all the time. In a strange way I was pleased that I owed him something.

He even taught one of the other volunteers how to thread her own eyebrows, so hopefully all the volunteers will know how to soon.
