This is Maryam

This is Maryam. She is 8 years old. We met her yesterday at a desolate woodland outside of Calais. Three weeks ago Maryam was rescued with her mother, two year old brother and father from a sinking dinghy in the channel. Her mother and brother are still in hospital suffering from the effects of being in the water. Maryam was discharged 3 days ago.

She lives with her father in a tent in the woods. Yesterday, we spent 3 hours distributing and talking to refugees in the freezing wind. I was numb from my feet to my knees; it took me 4 hours to thaw out. Maryam sleeps outside in these conditions. She cries every day for her mother.
