This is what a refugee said after our distribution
This weekend we gave out shoes to over 200 refugees in Calais. When we got home we received such a beautiful message from one of the refugees. We wouldn’t be able to help so many people without your continued support, so we wanted to share the message with you. His thanks are meant for every one of you that has supported us:
“Peace be upon you, wonderful people. Today was for us a feast day when you gave us the wonderful new winter shoes. We, as migrants in general, were it not for your generous and lasting support, we would not be able to live for a day in these forests. Thank you, wonderful people. Your good and your human deeds will remain alive and flow in our blood, and we will teach our generations who you are, and these human deeds will be reciprocated to you anytime we are able. You have my sincere love and respect. Despite the difference of race, language and religion, your humanity will remain in our hearts.”
This incredibly uplifting message was such a touching way to end our day. Our volunteers were busy all afternoon making sure that everyone who needed a pair of shoes got one, and receiving messages like these shows them that their hard work is worth it.
As days get colder and wetter it’s more and more important to make sure everyone has good-quality footwear that can keep their feet warm – and most importantly dry – during the winter. There’s nothing worse than having wet, cold feet all day, and walking for miles in inadequate shoes.
