Urgent – write now about the Illegal Migration Bill

Every morning our Calais warehouse is a hive of busy activity, but this morning, for a just few minutes, it was different. Because this morning we all sat down to write to our MPs about the Government’s Illegal Migration Bill.
So often we talk to people who are fleeing for their lives, and they tell us they place all their hopes of safety in the UK to shelter them.
So many times I have been told stories of people who have been rescued from the Mediterranean when their boats sank, but they will risk their lives again because they have family in the UK.
Frequently we help men and women who have been abused, trafficked and tortured; now I despair to see the protections for this most vulnerable group being removed
The people we work with here are so tired from all they have been though. They think they are almost at the end of their long journeys. But I know this callous, inhuman Bill will take away that scrap of hope that sustained them all this way and offer an impossible choice: remain here, or face detention and deportation in England. What sort of people can do this to other human beings?
Knowing all we know we must do all we can to stand against this shocking Bill. That’s why our volunteers have written such urgent letters to their MPs ahead of Mondays debate.
Today we’re asking you, our supporters to do the same. Please, please use our draft letter here Care4Calais.org/amendment to write to your MP explaining why they should oppose the bill.
There is still time. There is still hope. Please use it.
The bill, due to be debated in Parliament on Monday, is causing huge anxiety and concern here in northern France, because when you’re here day in and day out, the catastrophe it will wreak is clear.
Horrifically clear.
