Volunteers needed to help U.K. asylum seekers access legal aid

Due to its amazing success, we are once again recruiting new volunteers for our fantastic access team.
We need dedicated people who can spare at least 20 hours a week, have strong organisational and admin skills, who can work under pressure, and respond quickly to urgent situations.
When refugees arrive in the UK, they can be overwhelmed. This is what they’ve been thinking about for months and years – getting to safety in the UK and rebuilding their lives – but they arrive and can be treated like criminals, placed in poor accommodations for months on end or face heartbreaking delays and bureaucracy while they try to claim asylum.
Refugees who have legal advice have a better chance of getting asylum, and faster too, but they need a lawyer who can help them via legal aid. But many don’t know of their right to legal aid lawyers, some may have had their phones confiscated so have no means to contact lawyers, others will be too afraid to find one alone, for example if they cannot read or write English.
That’s where we come in.
Joining our team would mean giving hundreds of vulnerable people a helping hand. If you think this is a commitment you can make please email [email protected] and tell us why you want to volunteer for the UK Access to Legal Aid Team. Thank you so much.
