WATCH: Meet Eileen, the unstoppable 60-year-old volunteer

Meet Eileen, the 60-year-old volunteer seen here managing the food distribution line at the Afghan camp in Calais this week. You might think that would be hard from a wheelchair, but Eileen makes it look like plain sailing. Granted, a football did hit her by accident once, but the players could not have been more apologetic!

She’s no stranger to Calais, having volunteered with us several times before – not even the Covid pandemic could stop her from rushing out to help. It’s in her blood. She’s made some pretty incredible lunches for the volunteers while she has been here, too!

We are so incredibly lucky and grateful to have people like Eileen helping us on the ground. Her selflessness and resilience of spirit are traits you don’t come across every day. It’s because of people like her that we can keep providing essential services to so many vulnerable people. Eileen – you don’t need a round of applause to know you’re a superstar.
