Become a donation collection point

Become a collection point

We are always on the lookout for kind people and/or organisations who are able to host a collection point for donations of aid for Care4Calais. We have a number of these already dotted around the UK but we urgently need more! Would you be able to help?

What would you need to do?

As an individual

 As an organisation / business
» Have a spare room, garage or other watertight storage space to store donations for a few weeks at a time (potentially).» Provide us with a contact email address or phone number to allow people local to you to arrange to drop off donations. We would then add this to our drop off points map.

» Accept donations and keep them safe!

» Have a spare cupboard, warehouse or container space to store donations for a few weeks at a time (potentially).

» Provide us with contact details or business opening hours to allow people local to you to arrange to drop off donations. We would then add this to our drop off points map.

» Accept donations and keep them safe!

What happens then?

Once you have a reasonable amount of donations you have a choice.  You can either

  • Bring them to Calais – we would love to see you!
  • Take them to one of our Hubs, in Manchester, St Albans, Taunton and Kent
  • Get in touch with logistics@care4calais.org and will arrange a collection from you

Once you get into the swing of it you have another choice.  If you are happy to just take in the donations we send to you that’s fabulous – and we will always be very grateful.  But if you want to take things further, you can.  Maybe start advertising your involvement locally, try to drum up some local support. Start a local refugee friends group on Facebook, or run a collection at your workplace, school or club.  We can send you flyers or posters, give you some tips, just let us know!

Collecting and donating under Covid-19

It is important to put everyone’s safety first so we must reduce any risks of Covid transmission. Therefore we ask that:

  • When delivering donations to a drop-off point, you wear a mask, put the items on the doorstep, ring the bell and take a few steps back.
  • When receiving the items, you wear a mask, take them into your storage space and thoroughly wash your hands.
  • Donations are left untouched for three days before being moved or distributed.
  • If you, the donor, or anyone in your household has symptoms, DO NOT donate items until your self-isolation period is over.
  • If you, the drop-off point owner, or anyone in your household has symptoms, DO NOT receive or touch donations until your self-isolation period is over.

We believe that these procedures will help protect donors, volunteers and recipients. Please follow these guidelines so that we may continue to help those in need as safely as possible.
