Help the Afghan people in their darkest hour
We are now watching scenes beamed not from another country, but from Hell. Babies thrown over razor wire in a desperate attempt to get them to safety. Bodies tumbling from planes in the sky. And thousands upon thousands of people gripped with primal, panicking fear as they frantically run from one place to another seeking escape. I would say that it’s like watching people about to be murdered, but that’s wrong. The awful, unacceptable fact is that we literally are watching people about to be murdered. This is quite simply an attempt to deny the truth. Those of us who work with refugees know the vast majority have no choice but …

You probably also know that Care4Calais campaigned hard to stop asylum seekers being housed there. And that we’ve worked night and day to help get the most vulnerable people out of there, and into more suitable places. But why is it such a horror story for some people? I work on Care4Calais’ Napier team, which reaches out to people who have been taken to the barracks, and tries to make them feel supported. Many people who are …
BREAKING: High court ruled Napier unlawful
**Breaking news** The high court found today: Napier Barracks was inadequate accommodation for asylum seekers, placing them at risk of a fire and contracting COVID-19 The Government’s process for selecting people to be accommodated at the Barracks was flawed and unlawful Residents of Napier Barracks were unlawfully detained under purported Covid rules However over 265 asylum seekers remain accommodated at Napier barracks today and the Government intends to increase numbers up to 337.
